- January Bible study - Has American Christianity Failed? Starting January 8th at Riverbend Lutheran Church. 7:00pm. If there is enough interest at King of Kings we will hold a study there as well.
To the
congregation of King of Kings,
God has
called Trinity Lutheran Church, Richmond to lead a 5-year ongoing mission in
northern British Columbia. This mission work includes building a relationship
with the community of Gingolx in the Nisga’a Nation by
leading a 1-week vacation bible school each summer. We are working with the
Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilots to accomplish this mission.
Gingolx
is one of four Nisga’a villages that make up the Nisga’a Nation, comprising
approximately 400 people. The village is located on the Nass River, just beside
the Southern tip of Alaska. The Nisga’a people have a deep connection to
their land and culture. As is true with many Indigenous people in Canada, they
are still experiencing the negative effects of residential schools spiritually,
culturally, and generationally. However, the power of the Gospel persists in
this community, regardless of the harm that has been done in God’s name. The
hope in the eyes of the believers in the community is truly awe-inspiring. Of
importance for our mission is that we are invited. The community has
reached out to LAMP requesting that we provide a VBS each summer, with
approximately 40 children expected to attend. There are key community leaders
that support our mission and want us there, including the Gingolx
Village Government and council, one of whom also serves as the pastor at our
host church.
Prior to
the pandemic, I was part of a team with Faith Lutheran Surrey that went to the
same community in 2019. It was a life-changing and life-giving experience, and
furthering our relationship as a church with the community is something I
prayed for through the pandemic. In July, I will have the opportunity to
co-lead, along with our Youth Leader Adrianna Blitterswyk, the team returning
to the community. God has called four other faithful young adult and youth
members of Trinity and other local churches to serve on this mission, including
my wife, Michal. In addition to the VBS, we will be hosting community events
including youth games nights, a daily community coffee hour and bible study,
ladies spa and tea night, and a community potluck. We hope the experience will
be a fulfilling cultural exchange and that we can share God’s love with the
people of Gingolx.
I ask of
King of Kings to pray for me, our team, and especially for the people we will
serve in Gingolx. As God leads, please also consider contributing
financially. We are attempting to raise $5000 for the trip each year, to cover
a rental vehicle, fuel, supplies, and community gifts. Please pray with me that
this need be met. I am excited and hopeful, and I expect myself and our team to
learn so much through this experience. I greatly appreciate your letting me
share with you what I believe will be a meaningful experience in my and others’
lives.
Sincerely,
Braydan
